Nestled amidst tranquil surroundings and distinctive Cape-Dutch architecture, Ashton International College Benoni is a private, independent Christian school that opened its doors in 1998. Under the visionary guidance of its founding members, the College has flourished into a centre of excellence where tradition, innovation and values unite.
As a proudly South African institution, we are committed to providing quality education that prepares our students to take a leading role in building a united and compassionate nation. Our educational approach challenges each student to think critically, question deeply and strive for excellence of mind, body and spirit within a happy, nurturing environment.
Grounded in Christian principles and South African Constitutional values—including human dignity, democracy, equality and multicultural diversity—Ashton upholds a culture of respect, integrity and care. The College ethos is value-driven, fostering responsibility, good manners and a sense of community that reflects the “old-fashioned values” too often lost in the modern world.
Our strength lies in a team of subject specialists, state-of-the-art facilities and an experienced administration that together create an environment where students are encouraged to discover and develop their full potential. Beyond the classroom, a rich selection of sporting, cultural and community-based activities inspires creativity, teamwork and character.
At Ashton International College Benoni, we believe that excellence belongs to the zealous, and every student is encouraged to be the best version of themselves—academically, socially and spiritually.

Ashlings Academics
The Ashlings Early Learning Centre is a child-centred environment where curiosity, creativity and growth take flight. From the moment you enter, it is clear that our dedicated staff are committed to nurturing each child’s potential, helping them develop a love for learning through play, exploration and social interaction.
Learning at the Ashlings is guided by the child, both in the classroom and on the playground, creating endless opportunities for discovery. In a world increasingly dominated by technology, we prioritise genuine connection—between child and teacher, and between families and the school community.
Our stimulating and creative environment, combined with a hands-on, specially designed curriculum, encourages children to explore, play and develop holistically. The Ashlings’ curriculum addresses the social, emotional and cognitive needs of young learners, preparing them for a smooth transition into Grade 1. Activities include fantasy and imaginative play, puzzle building, fine and gross motor skill development, and early computer literacy through the Knowledge Network Computer Studies programme.
Foundation Phase Academics
The Foundation Phase is an introduction to formal learning, and at Ashton, we believe in making it an exciting experience. Our curriculum from Grade 1 to 3 includes the Cambridge International Curriculum from the University of Cambridge; it encourages creative thinking, problem-solving and instils a love for art, culture and sport. Foundation Phase students undergo more formal assessments at the end of each term, in English, Mathematics and Life Skills.
Intersen Phase Academics
In the Intersen Phase, our students are guided to cope with more advanced formal academic work, are equipped with essential study skills and given greater independence.
From Grades 4 to 6, our students follow the Cambridge International Primary Checkpoint Curriculum.
In their final year of Junior College (Grade 7), our students follow a combination of the South African National Curriculum and the Cambridge Secondary Curriculum.
Senior College Academics
At Ashton, we pride ourselves on combining the excitement and innovation of a relatively new concept in education by offering students the best of both worlds.
We offer our students the best of both worlds through our unique ‘Two Worlds in One’ academic model, which combines the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CIE) and Independent Examination Board (IEB) curricula.
In Form 1 (Grade 8), students are introduced to a broad range of subjects across both systems. At the end of the year, they select seven subjects for their Form 2 (Grade 9) year and choose either the Cambridge or IEB curriculum — provided they meet the required academic standard.
Students who qualify for the Cambridge curriculum complete their IGCSE examinations at the end of Form 3 (Grade 10), after which they may choose to continue with either the CIE or IEB curriculum. Those who select the IEB stream work towards achieving the South African National Senior Certificate.
This structure allows learners to specialize earlier, reducing their workload from 14 to 7 subjects, enabling focused academic growth and informed career planning. It also provides students with the time and balance to participate fully in Ashton’s vibrant sporting and cultural programmes.

At Ashton Benoni, we offer a wide range of engaging and exciting cultural activities for both our Junior and Senior College students, ensuring that every learner can explore and develop their unique skills and interests. From drama and theatre to music, debating, visual arts, and creative clubs, our cultural programme provides numerous opportunities for students to express themselves, collaborate with their peers, and grow in confidence.
Participation in cultural activities is more than just honing a skill—it helps students develop teamwork, leadership, resilience and self-expression. Whether performing on stage, composing music, crafting visual art, or engaging in public speaking, students gain invaluable experiences that complement their academic journey.
At Ashton Benoni, we continue to expand our sporting programme, with opportunities available throughout the school year. Our sports are structured seasonally, and there may be some overlap between codes, particularly during pre-season training. We emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and expect our students to foster positive, respectful relationships with all schools and peers they encounter on the field.
Our campus boasts a 7,000 m² multi-purpose Rhino-Turf sports field, the first of its kind in Africa. Trusted by international clubs including Chelsea Football Club, this professional-grade surface supports the development of young athletes and provides Ashton with a unique competitive advantage.
Additional sporting facilities include:
These facilities allow our students to train and compete across a wide variety of disciplines, promoting skill development, fitness, and a love of sport.
