The Ashton brand represents a distinctive educational concept within the South African landscape. We offer what we proudly call “Two Worlds in One” — providing both the Independent Examination Board (IEB) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curricula. Each of these programmes is globally respected, academically rigorous, and delivered with professionalism and integrity.
Our exceptional Dream Team of educators are uniquely qualified to teach across both curricula, ensuring a rich and versatile learning experience. Ashton also embraces the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, inspiring children to learn through curiosity and creativity while unlocking their full potential.
At the heart of Ashton’s Ethos and Philosophy lies a commitment to being value-driven — encouraging every individual to strive toward becoming the best version of themselves. We motivate our students to participate fully in all aspects of College life while pursuing excellence in everything they do.
Guided by a strong Christian ethos and underpinned by core family values, Ashton has continued to grow and thrive over the past 13 years. We welcome students from age 2 (turning 3) through to Matric — nurturing excellence every step of the way.

The Ashlings Early Learning Centre Academics: (Age 2 turning 3 – Grade R)
From the minute you walk through the doors, you can feel that the heart of the staff and the school at large, is devoted to helping each child reach their potential. Our school quite simply believes in play and in embracing childhood! Learning occurs throughout each classroom and on the playground in a child-led manner. The possibilities for learning are endless if they are guided by a child. Capturing the essence and individuality of each child and allowing this to flourish is something which our qualified teachers pride themselves on.
In an age where technology comes into play all too often, in the Ashlings Early Learning Centre, we focus on connection – connection between the child and their teacher, and the connection between families and the school.
Our daily activities focus on play-based, hands-on learning and this is scaffolded by specialist sessions with Music, Balls Skills, the Learn to Swim programme throughout the year, as well as age-appropriate computer literacy skills during our Computer slots for the Grade 00 children onwards.
Foundation Phase Academics: (Grade 1-3)
At Ashton College, the pursuit of academic excellence begins in the Foundation Phase, where our dedicated teachers nurture young minds with care, inspiring each child to reach their full potential.
Our rich and dynamic curriculum prepares students for an ever-changing world while ensuring a joyful and engaging school experience. We combine proven traditional methods with innovative, modern approaches — creating a uniquely different learning environment where dreams, whether academic, artistic, sporting, or dramatic, are encouraged to flourish.
Guided by kindness and strong Christian values, we foster respect, tolerance, and acceptance, empowering our students to lead lives of purpose and significance. With the support of exceptional teachers and coaches, our Foundation Phase learners are well-prepared to embrace the next stage of their educational journey.
Intersen Phase Academics: (Grade 4-7)
The Intersen Phase is guided by a dedicated team of passionate and talented teachers who pour their hearts into educating and shaping our students into independent, creative, and confident young individuals. Our goal is to instil a strong work ethic while fostering a growth mindset that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
We are proud to offer an extensive extramural programme that caters to a wide range of interests across sport and culture. Our sporting options include both traditional summer and winter codes, along with numerous team and individual activities.
The Arts & Cultural Department provides enriching opportunities such as Chess, Drama, Art Club, Choir, Marimba Band, and various vocal and instrumental lessons. Every second year, the Junior and Senior College alternate in staging a major theatre production — events that are renowned for their exceptional quality and are eagerly anticipated by the Ballito community.
Senior College Academics: (Grade 8-12)
Our College is an amalgamation of subject specialists, state-of-the-art facilities and an experienced and efficient administration. We encourage all students to participate in the many extra-curricular activities we offer from dance and music to a variety of sports, community projects and clubs. It is important for each student to explore and find their strengths and it is our sense of commitment that we strive to unlock the potential that lies within every student, producing well rounded young adults that will one day, make a difference in the world. We pride ourselves on combining the excitement and innovation of a relatively new concept in education by offering students the best of both worlds. In Form 1 the students are introduced to the broader spectrum of subjects offered on a cross-curriculum of the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). At the end of this first year, students choose seven subjects for their Form 2 year selecting either the Cambridge Curriculum or the IEB Curriculum, provided they have achieved the required minimum standard. Our focus is on Academic, Sport and Cultural Excellence.
