The MMEG Bursary 2022 – 2023

MMEG is providing an opportunity for female students of South Africa to apply for the bursaries for the upcoming academic year of 2023.

The bursary applies only to selected universities.

If a female belongs to any of the countries mentioned in the MMEG Country eligibility list, they are eligible to apply for the bursary.

The MMEG grant’s objective is to assist women from underdeveloped nations so they can further their education and enhance the lives of women and children in such nations. One of the few organisations, MMEG, especially offers financial aid and scholarships to women.

The scholarship offers the following benefits:

  • Funds for up to US$ 7000 (may vary as it depends on the availability of funds).

Eligibility Criteria For The Bursary

Candidates must check the eligibility criteria before applying for the bursary. There should not be any exceptions or the application will not be considered.

  • The candidate must hold South African citizenship.
  • The candidate must have a permit to study in South Africa if the candidate belongs to some other country.
  • Only female students are eligible to apply.
  • The candidates must be more than 25 years old or more at the time deadline.
  • The candidate must be enrolled to study for any of the following:
    • Certificate
    • Undergraduate study
    • Graduate qualification
    • Post-Doctoral-level studies
  • The candidate must be enrolled in any of the following universities:
    • Cape Peninsula of Technology
    • Central University of Technology
    • Durban University of Technology
    • Mangosuthu University of Technology
    • Fort Hare University
    • Limpopo University
    • Nelson Mandela University
    • North-West University
    • Rhodes University
    • Sefako Makgatho Health Science University
    • Sol Plaatje University, Stellenbosch University
    • Tshwane University
    • University of Cape Town
    • University of Johannesburg
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal
    • University of Mpumalanga
    • University of Pretoria
    • University of the Free State
    • University of the Western Cape
    • University of the Witwatersrand
    • University of Venda
    • University of Zululand
    • Vaal University of Technology
    • Walter Sisulu University
  • The candidate must be registered for a full-time or part-time program with at least two subjects per term.
  • The candidate must plan on studying for the whole term after receiving the bursary.
  • The candidate must be enrolled for one more academic term.
  • The candidate must not be related to any of the following:
    • International Monetary Fund.
    • World Bank Group.
    • Inter-American Development Bank staff member, retiree, Board Member or spouse.

The application has to be submitted online. The candidates are required to register an account and then log in to apply.

Documents Required

All the mentioned documents must be attached with the application form. There should not be any documents missing or the application will not be considered.

  • Valid ID documents.
  • Passport with photo, if you are a foreign student.
  • Permit or visa page with updated passport, for foreign students.
  • The second passport with photo, if the student has dual citizenship.
  • Proof of enrollment at a university.
  • Academic records and transcripts.
  • Briefly describe your background and education, as well as how your experiences and aspirations relate to your dedication to assisting women and children in underdeveloped nations.
  • Briefly describe your thesis, including its purpose, methods, conclusions, and how they connect to your professional objectives (if applicable) (If not applicable: describe how your current academic endeavours relate to your long-term objectives in terms of your career or volunteer work.)
  • Two reference letters
    • 1 letter of recommendation from a professor at your university and 1 letter from a character reference (this can NOT be a family member)
    • At least one of your referees must have known you for at least two semesters or the equivalent.
    • The referees’ email addresses must be d mentioned in the reference letters so that they can be contacted and sent a link by email from Embark Online to submit their recommendations (you must get the consent of both references before putting forward their details)
    • The candidate will then hear from Embark if they are chosen. (If your referee has not received an email from Embark, advise that they check their spam folder, make sure that pop-up blockers are disabled, and/or send an email to MMEG asking for a specific link.

Note: the documents must be submitted in pdf, jpeg or png format.

Closing Date Of The Bursary

The applications will be closed on 14 September 2022. Candidates must complete the application before the deadline as no late submissions will be accepted.
