The Cultural Policy and Management Department (CPM) prepares students for entry into the diverse and exciting world of cultural policy, cultural economy, city making, cultural management, cultural leadership and activism, cultural administration and arts marketing. The post graduate degrees encourage both recent graduates as well as mid-career professionals in the creative sector aiming to consolidate their grasp and practice of the field.

Wits Sport offers 28 SPORT CODES to choose from. Students may choose to compete at the level they are comfortable with, from beginner, right through to elite level. 


OUTDOOR SPORT: Aquatics, Cricket, Football, Futsal, Hockey, Mountain Climbing/Bouldering, Netball, Orienteering, Rowing, Rugby, Rugby 7’s, Snow Skiing, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee, Underwater Sport, Yachting 

INDOOR SPORT: Aerobics, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Fencing, Gymnastics, Karate (JKA), Tai Chi & Yuishinkai Kobujutsu, Squash, Table Tennis, Tang Soo Do, Volleyball, ESports  

The University offers several scholarships for students. These scholarships are based on academic merit. 

Funding rules for Council scholarships/bursaries

  • The following rules apply to all University Council funded scholarships/bursaries, including undergraduate and postgraduate bursaries.
  • All bursaries will be cancelled and forfeited should a student deregister for any reason.
  • Students who are eligible for University Council Scholarships or Postgraduate Merit Awards, but who receive NSFAS funding, will not receive University funding, however, the University award will be recorded on their academic transcripts.
  • Where a student receives multiple bursaries from Council funds that covers the same category of cost (e.g., tuition fees), then any amounts more than the cost will be reversed.
  • Specific rules are provided below for each of the Council funded bursary programmes
